We're right in the thick of Q4 and as we pack more boxes than ever, we've been thinking back to where we began and how far we've come since then.
From concept to reality, Postal Packaging was created in the UK by four dynamic women — Kelly, Imogen, Marie, and Lucy — committed to get stuck in and determined to be successful. We started small, selling on eBay from one of our homes. It was jam-packed, let me tell you, and the neighbours' faces were a picture as we unloaded the first lorry!
Now we're in the middle of our first proper Christmas season, negotiating on our third warehouse, and have just launched our bespoke brand, Novapac. We're super proud of what we've achieved so far — but it's been a journey. We caught up with the four Postal Packaging founders as they reflected on their experience from day one to now.
Postal Packaging was founded by Kelly, Imogen, Marie, and Lucy — four women from a hospitality background who decided to build something of their own. What started from a home has grown into a multi-warehouse operation shipping across the UK.
Kelly — Chief Operating Officer
What have you learnt?
When someone gives you a lead time… double it!
What skills have you found?
Driving a bendy forklift truck!
What got you through any tough times?
Coffee and good colleagues.
Marie — Head of UK Relations
What's your advice to anyone starting a new venture?
Pay attention to detail — you have time!
What helped you along the way?
Canva, HubSpot, and debriefing, venting, and laughing with the team.
What didn't we get right?
We tried too much too soon — ordered in too much stock, launched Amazon far too early, and tried a million different systems.
Lucy — Head of Projects
What do you think we've done well?
We're chatty Cathys who come from a hospitality background, so we're good at building relationships — from suppliers and drivers to our neighbours and posties.
What helped you along the way?
YouTube, for sure. I'm a big believer that if you don't know how to do something, just watch a video and learn!
What was your best memory?
Moving into the warehouse — or any container day!
Imogen — Head of Finance & People
What have you learnt?
It's always worth negotiating your rates and working to find terms that work for you.
What couldn't you do your job without?
Definitely Copilot!
What's been a highlight?
Getting my budgets spot on!
Still Going Strong
When we first started, there was a collective cheer with every iPad 'ding' for a new order. Whilst we don't still whoop every time (it would be very noisy), we are so grateful for every single order — and thankful for all of you for coming on this journey with us.
We've got bigger boxes to build and plenty more stories to share. Follow us to find out what really goes on behind the boxes over on Instagram @postalpackagingltd.
